💻️ Remote Work Will Make a Comeback—Here’s Why I’m Betting on It
Here we are in 2025, with offices slowly filling up and stories everywhere about executives mandating five-day office policies. But believe me: remote work isn’t going away. If anything, I’m convinced the pendulum will swing back in favor of flexible work—and sooner than we think.
As I recently heard in a Washington Post podcast, there’s still “no real evidence” that forcing everyone into the office five days a week automatically boosts performance. In fact, research shows people often end up unhappy and less productive when forced to commute daily for tasks they can easily handle from home. Meanwhile, Harvard Business School professor Frances Frei told Fast Company she expects the pendulum to swing back toward remote options, pointing out that there’s no data to support that nonstop in-office attendance is magically superior.
It’s pretty clear a lot of companies are basing return-to-office on nostalgia instead of results. Sure, some leaders love seeing filled cubicles—it makes them feel like “work is happening.” But it’s only a matter of time before they realize they’re alienating top talent. If employees can get the same work done (sometimes more efficiently) from anywhere, why not let them? And if a competitor offers full flexibility, guess who’s going to snap up your best people?
So yeah, remote work might be “on the ropes” for now, but when the job market heats up again, many companies that enforced rigid in-office demands may have to reverse course—fast. People value their work-life balance, and the best employees always have choices. Unless a job specifically requires physical presence, I’d bet we’ll be seeing more remote-friendly policies creeping back in. And honestly? I can’t wait. Let’s save the office for those crucial team-bonding events or client meetings—not for staring at each other all week just to fill seats.
