✈️ Taiwan’s New Digital Nomad Visa: What You Need to Know

Taipei, Taiwan

Taipei, Taiwan

If you’ve been scanning the globe for a fresh digital nomad hotspot, Taiwan just dropped a major travel bombshell. The island nation—known for vibrant night markets, stunning mountain vistas, and fast Wi-Fi—has officially rolled out a digital nomad visa that lets you stay for up to six months. Translation? Way more bubble tea and hot springs than a 90-day tourist visa allows. 🍵

Who Can Apply?

  • The guidelines vary depending on your income and age (with different thresholds if you’re 20–29 or 30+).

  • You also need proof of remote work experience, plus passport validity and financial statements.

  • Already scored a nomad visa from another country? That could fast-track your application.

Why Taiwan?
Taiwan’s National Development Council is betting big on attracting top “digital professionals,” pumping in over $4.5 billion annually to support innovation. It’s not just a glorified tourist pass: the government wants 10% of visa holders to stay long-term—meaning you could potentially set down semi-permanent roots. Think of it as an “audition” for your next home base, with options to extend, switch to a work visa, or even nab the coveted “Gold Card.”

What’s the Catch?
Not much, really. Taiwan’s already famed for its safety, affordability, and progressive vibes (Taipei consistently ranks among the safest global cities). And while you’ll have to jump through some paperwork hoops—proof of health insurance, income docs, etc.—the process is fully online. The biggest question is whether six months will be enough time to explore all of Taiwan’s hot pot spots and hidden hiking trails!

If you’re eyeing a new digital nomad frontier in Asia, this might be the perfect launch pad. Drop us a line if you’re heading to Taiwan—or if you’re already there, let us know how it’s going!
