🗺 The Vibe

Alright nomad, let’s paint a picture of this week’s destination for you:

You step off the plane in Havana and the first thing that hits you is the heat. It's a warm embrace, like the city is welcoming you with open arms. You take a deep breath and let it sink in. You're here. You've finally made it to Cuba, a destination that's been on your bucket list for years.

As you make your way to your Airbnb, you can't help but take in the sights and sounds of the city. The colorful buildings, the vintage cars, and the vibrant street art all catch your eye. It's a visual feast with pleasant surprises around every corner.

Over the next few days, you settle into your routine. You start your mornings with a cup of Cuban coffee and a stroll through the historic streets of Old Havana. You find a cafe with wifi and settle in for a few hours of work, taking breaks to chat with the locals and practice your Spanish.

In the afternoons, you explore the city, trying out different restaurants and bars, each with its own unique flavor and vibe. You sample the local cuisine, from classic Cuban dishes like ropa vieja to modern fusion cuisine, and you fall in love with the flavors.

As the sun sets, you make your way to a salsa club, where the music and energy are infectious. You dance the night away, surrounded by locals and fellow digital nomads, all united by their love for Havana.

Living in Havana as a digital nomad is a unique experience, one that's full of adventure, culture, and inspiration. It's a city that invites you to explore, connect, and create. And as you sit back and take it all in, you know that you've found a city that will always hold a special place in your heart.

🍽 To Eat & Drink

When it comes to food and drink, Havana doesn’t disappoint. The city's cuisine is a fusion of African, Spanish, and Caribbean influences, resulting in a delicious blend of flavors and textures. Whether you're looking for a quick snack or a hearty meal, you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for. Make sure to try:

  1. Ropa Vieja - A traditional Cuban dish of shredded beef in a savory tomato sauce, often served with rice and beans.

  2. Mojito - The classic Cuban cocktail made with rum, lime, sugar, mint, and soda water. It's the perfect drink for a hot day on the beach.

  3. Tostones - Fried plantain slices that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They make a great snack or side dish.

  4. Cubano Sandwich - A classic sandwich (and one of my personal favorites) made with ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard, all pressed together on Cuban bread.

  5. Cafe Cubano - A strong and sweet shot of espresso, usually served in a small cup. It's the perfect pick-me-up to start your day in Havana.

🎉 Where to Dine, Wine, and Party

From classic Cuban dishes to innovative fusion cuisine, you'll find a restaurant to satisfy every craving in Havana. And when the sun goes down, the city comes alive with music, dance, and an endless array of bars and clubs to explore. So grab your dancing shoes and get ready to savor the flavors of Havana!

Here are some of the top spots to check out:

  1. La Guarida - Located in a crumbling mansion in the heart of Havana, La Guarida is a must-visit restaurant for its delicious food and stunning views of the city.

  2. El Floridita - This historic bar is famous for its daiquiris and was frequented by Ernest Hemingway. It's a great spot for a classic Cuban cocktail and some live music.

  3. El Cocinero - Set in a former oil factory, this trendy restaurant is perfect for a romantic dinner or a night out with friends. The rooftop bar offers stunning views of the city.

  4. Casa Miglis - This Swedish-Cuban fusion restaurant is a hidden gem in the heart of Havana. It's the perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a night out with friends.

  5. Tropicana - This legendary nightclub has been entertaining visitors since the 1930s with its dazzling cabaret shows and lively music. It's a true Havana institution and a must-visit spot for nightlife.

🏡 To Stay

Havana offers a variety of options from cozy guesthouses to luxurious hotels, all with their own unique charm. You can find something to make it work on a budget or get a more upscale experience if that’s what you’re looking for.

✈️ To Fly

When planning your trip to Havana, the best time to fly there is during the off-peak season, which is from May to November. During this time, you can save a lot of money on airfare, and you’ll have a better chance of finding deals on accommodations as well. José Martí International Airport is the main airport that serves Havana and is located just a short drive from the city center. It’s easy to get to the airport by taxi or public transportation, and there are plenty of flight options available from major airlines.

Most of the lowest cost flights fly out of the east coast, but you can find your city here and check what the prices are to fly there for you. Also, if you’re a US citizen you may need to have a valid reason for traveling to Cuba other than just tourism, such as those listed here.
