🚫🧳 The Rise of “Naked Traveling” — Clever Hack or Just Plain Crazy?

Luggage Left Behind

Ever thought about ditching your suitcase entirely and hopping on a flight with nothing but the clothes on your back? Welcome to the “naked traveling” trend, where a growing number of minimalist flyers ditch baggage fees by traveling with zero luggage—literally no suitcase or carry-on. The New York Post and The Street both report that viral TikTokers, like NYC creator Bethany Ciotola, are going baggage-free to avoid the soaring costs of checked or even carry-on bags. One traveler confessed, “I am f––king crazy. But I’m free.

For many of us, paying $25 to $50—or more—to bring a basic carry-on is the new airline reality. Some see it as a scam, some see it as the final push needed to say, “You know what? My high school sweatpants at my parents’ house will do!” But hey, if you’re a frequent flyer who’s cool wearing the same outfit two days in a row, it might be worth joining this movement. No rolling suitcases, no stress about overhead bin space, no waiting at baggage claim for that MIA luggage. It’s like stepping onto a bus—except you end up in a different city (or country) a few hours later.

Now, if you’re #TeamMinimalist, you might be tempted to try it. But for the rest of us who need more than a single outfit—hello, I need at least three pairs of shoes on any given trip—maybe we’ll stick to rolling our T-shirts and hacking our packing cubes. Still, I have to admit: part of me respects the boldness of “flying naked.” After all, there’s a certain freedom in ditching everything but your sense of adventure. Would you give it a shot? Let me know—just keep it PG-13 on the plane, please! ✈️
